Well fair play to the local paper for not bowing to the pressure and doing the same. Folk were baying for a name on their Facebook but they didn't post or publish one. I'm sure the record are in contempt, but it will be a slap on the wrist, the press complaints mob are toothless, as we've seen recently! Someone needs to appear in court before they can legally be named, but it's out there now...!

welcome to bigbro - will you be watching us all?
As for the daliy record, they have indeed named a suspect. And just for the record this person IS innocent until proven otherwise. No ifs about it.

I'll be watching closely, of course! lol. The Record will get off with it because the PCC are toothless. Simple as that. A joke outfit.

Linda - it is the Daily Record! They can do whatever they want...
Bigbro - only goes to the PCC if someone takes the time to complain over it. The legal argument over the publication of names falls under the providence of sub judice and contempt of court. The record will argue that the did not prejudice any forthcoming trial by printing the accussed's name. Whether the court takes any action on this remains to be seen. The name would have been in the public domain after Monday anyway...

I hope our trusty boys in blue will not make an arse of things this time. It is my submission that this case would have been solved earlier had the investigation not be so nasty and heavy handed.
They took perfectly respectable and obviously innocent people with incontrovertible alibis, 'downtown' and strip searched them and subjected them to prolonged and humiliating, non-PACE interrogations and in some cases, intimate examinations. Word got around and the wall of silence went up.
Typical Strathclyde Police and I for one will not be sorry to see the back of them

I had to drive by the court this morning on an entirely unrelated matter. There seemed to be an extra police motor sitting in Watt Street and there was a photographer hanging around at the back of the court. This was about 10 past 10 and as I drove past the Regal Bar TWO G4S prisoner transports trundled by on their way, it would seem, to the court.
The above adds bugger all to the story but I thought I would share it with you cos I know you are all nosey gits as well seekers of the truth.

The Tele is running an online story stating the accussed has been named - don't know if htey are naming the accussed themselves or just covering the fact the Record, once again, beat them to the scoop...

The Tele are normally first with the stories from the court too eh.....

Not necessarily Broxiboy75, it really depends on the time of the appearance, whether or not they have left space available in the paper for the story, and whether or not there is a significant local interest in the matter for them to devote resources to the story. In the old days it was possible to get something into the tele at 11am and it would appear in that day's edition. Recently it seems as if the paper is written about four days in advance of publication date...
In this modern world I would expect the Tele to be first with the story on their website, but that does not seem to have been updated since 11am this morning...

My son has just shown me some of the disgusting things that the Tele has on its Facebook page relating to the appearance in court of the person accused in the Doyle murder. Bloody disgusting, what sort of people are they and what sort of a cheap rag is the Tele to allow people to post such vile bilge.
Demanding the hanging of someone who has yet to be tried is an abomination and there are many comments just like that one. The Tele is nothing more than a wannabe red top with the integrity of a puff adder.
There is NO way this man will get a fair trial here, he has been convicted, tried and sentenced by the mob.
I have to confess to being a bit suspicious of all this sudden police activity so near to the ending of Strathclyde Police. Wouldn't it look great for them to end their, 'illustrious' history with a major breakthrough in a cold case?
Far fetched? Don't you believe it, only a few weeks ago towns from Motherwell to Millport saw a huge and inappropriate police presence for no other reason than showing the flag. And if I am right, they would be guilty of yet another outrage against Maureen Doyle who has had to endure more than any mortal being should.
Strathclyde Police will NOT be missed.

I was in tesco tonite and noticed the tele front page - it appears that the accussed was to be granted bail by sheriff swanney and released to an address that was not for publication. This was immediately appealled by the fiscal and the matter will be decided at the high court tomorrow. I may have picked the story up wrongly since I refuse to buy the tele but there ye go...

The fact that Swanney River was contemplating a release on bail suggests to me that already cracks are beginning to show. I have very serious concerns that Strathclyde Police are making a grand gesture as they pass into history. What next, the Duke of Kent has been arrested for being Bible John?
However, in the meantime, can I suggest that we tread warily with our comments on this.

According to daily mail readers these places are like holiday camps - en suite showers and as much sky tv as you want.... Nae phones up yer jacksy though - they apparantly have a beast called an "orifice scanner" there... Linda, Unlikely to be segregated from other prisoners on that programme - the wing holds about 30 convicted and remand prisoners...kept seperate from rest of the jail normally.

I just saw this in the Evening Times. A valedictory article about the Chief Constable of Strathclyde who was a young acting DC in 1986 and Elaine's murder was one of the first cases he worked on. Now, "days before" he retires he's "incredibly proud" the force have put the collar on someone for the murder. I don't know about anyone else, but it makes me feel a bit sick. www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/chief-constables-life-on-the-force-has-come-full-circle-119816n.20631999It might just be a coincidence but reading the comments from people more knowledgeable than I am with regards to Strathclyde's finest, suddenly there's arguably a political dimension to things. If nothing else I don't like the way he's publicly linking his career to the murder being solved. Elaine Doyle was a person, not a career move. Or some kind of abstract idea. At best this article is poor judgement.
