From the Tele:You see, this where the inadequacies of the Tele's journalistic abilities shows itself up. First of all, as John Cairney would be the first to admit, he was NO Hollywood star. He was an estimable jobbing actor whose many performances as Robert Burns in, 'There was a Man' brought justifiable fame in the this country and abroad. He had a very small supporting part in Cleopatra but to describe that overblown piece of hokum as a, "hit 60s film" just shows how lost amongst the fluff the Tele's juvenile and incompetent reporters are. First of all, 'Cleopatra' was NO hit, it made a total loss of more than $20 million and drove 20th Century Fox to the brink of bankrupstsy and saw the end of Daryll Zanuck's rule at the studios. Has the Tele never heard of IMDB or Wikipedia? ? Still, I think I might enjoy hearing some of John's stories and recollections. If only I knew where the venue was, I'd consider attending. I well remember his part in the old BBC Scotland TV series, 'This Man Craig' where he played a hard-pressed school teacher with new ideas. But for God's sake Tele, before you allow some poorly trained wean to write articles, get them to do some research before they try to make ridiculous claims for people who would be embarrassed by them.

I think before too long, probably when the BBC cancels the shite, there will be a huge scandal over the Shiterloo Road thing. Things like who paid who for what and all that sort exciting stuff.

That would sort them! That creepy, ugly guy on that show makes me feel queasy. It's really just an excuse for people to keek at other people's naughty bits Of course, most of the Labour councillors don't have naughty bits.

This is the state of Journalism today Tiddles, barely literate monkeys raised on a steady diet of sound bites and sensationalism that will focus on the trivial and over blow it out of all recognisable relevance ignoring such inconveniences as facts in order to deliver a work of fantasy based on nothing other than the public's tendency to seek sensationalism and their inability / unwillingness to discern between fact and fiction...
In short the tenet of the modern journalist seems to be "We can always print a retraction buried in the classified ads later"...

Thank you, thank you, thank you.....I have been trying to remember who it was who did a show on Robert Burns in the Arts Guild when I must have been about 15 years old, probably there on a school excursion from Greenock High. I remember a very good looking John Cairney but for the life of me, I couldn't remember his name.

It always amazes me that people who claim to be embarrassed about showing their nether regions to their doctor are quite happy to drop their knickers or underpants on national TV. This show is simply one step behind porn and it makes me cringe. As to that ugly bastard who fronts it, jeez....HE should be embarrassed about his body, he's a bloody freak!!!!!

Linda, I'm sure I saw him on TV too but seeing him live and I believe I was right in front of the stage at the time, that always stuck in my mind - even though I couldn't remember his name.

He toured the country and the Commonwealth with his one man show, 'There was a Man'. What also helped his performance was that he bore a striking resemblance to Burns. Does anyone know where this show is to be held, I really would like to attend? I am loathed to pay good money for a Tele.
