The council spent a barrow-load of our cash mounting a petition against it. Like most people, I was against the merger because West Renfrewshire was the most corrupt council in Scotland with drug-dealers and thugs all dipping their beaks into the trough. Now I have to admit, I find myself being in favour of merging all the Renfrewshire councils, if nothing else it would break the power base of the cretins who run things here now. There would be a lot more money in the pot and with the new voting system, we'd see a greater accountability...AND wee Moron and fatty Wilson would NOT get to be Provost and Deputy Provost. Flash Harry McCabe would be shunted into obscurity and that Wean in the East End would be sent back to his Action Man and his Dinkys. The Telegraph would be irrelevant. Anyway, your thoughts?

I'm all for it if it saves cash and we still have a adequate voice on any new local authority. Lets face it this council has done very little for this area so a change might improve things.

It could actually work out quite well, East and West Renfrewshire Councils hate each other and they both despise Inverclyde, it good be quite good fun! It would also see the end of nice little earners like old fatty Wilson's RI job.

the thing that annoys me is the board hold them up as some kind of good example, E.Ren is the most affluent area within the board, so its hardly fucking surprising

Yep, not too many poor folks in Newton Mearns, Giffnock or Eaglesham. Even East Kilbride is relatively affluent.

so they want to transfer all Health Services to these councils, say good bye to any local health services if that happens, RAH will be the centre of everything, IRH will be lucky to be a community hospital.
Its more or less a return to A&C if that happens, pump all the money into RAH and fuck the rest

This might be a good example of the old adage 'better the devil you know.'
If Inverclyde is merged to form 'Greater Renfrewshire' then you can bet that we'll be the poor relations down the coast who will have very little representation in influential committees and decision making and therefore minimal influence on where the budget gets spent.
Currently East Ren & Ren combined have 60 Councillors and a populaton of 290,000 compared to Inverclyde's 20 Councilors and population of around 80,000.
I have family and friends who stay in Renfrewshire and I am shocked at the state of the roads up there (although I managed to claim £1,700 from them for damage caused by poor maintenance) and the total lack of investment in housing and retail areas outwith Paisley Town Centre,which itself isn't fantastic.
Now i'm not saying that Invercyde Council are any great shakes, but i'm pretty sure that within a few years of a merger people will wish that Inverclyde Council stll existed when there's nothing beng invested in the area rather than the current situation of money being spent on the wrong priorities.

I would concur Winston, as much as I dislike IC, I think a Greater Renfrewshire council would be a lot worse
