First of all Duncan, you didn't write this, a big boy did it while you were out eating pies.
Yes and they were and ARE pish. Inverclyde's Social Care services are lamentable run by a bunch of self-obsessed witches who couldn't give a flying f*** about those unfortunate enough to fall under the gaze. They see frail people as a nuisance and their sole purpose in life is to protect the council from them.
Excellent, this is empowerment and it makes sure that people actually get what they need rather than what the council wants them to have.
Well Duncan, rather than trying to play politics you should remember that the whole process will be subject to rigorous inspection unlike the present when the council can and does do whatever it likes with impunity.
Where have you been up to now? I KNOW that MANY people, including myself have approached you over the years about the appalling care provisions services from Inverclyde Council and you gave and probably still do offer the, "Thank you for letting me know about......., as soon as I have had a look at the situation, I'll get back to you".
Remember Duncan, you are NO spring chicken and you just never know what's around the corner, it might be you sitting on the commode asking the time!

Traditionally, the services required by those in need of care have been arranged and managed by local authorities

Those who require care will have the choice of remaining with their current care arrangements, receiving individual budgets via direct payment from the council, or employing their own personal assistant.
They will also have the option of receiving care from independent voluntary sectors and, indeed, for the first time, friends or family members.

How will self-directed support ensure better quality of care?
How will it work for those who have less capacity to choose, including children and the mentally impaired?
If the care is not provided by a professional, how do we ensure that it is properly regulated?

It is important, therefore, that we get it right
