www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/news/freecontent/articles/2012/05/10/428715-20-sign-up-for-great-wall-trek/Look, if someone came to me and asked me to make a contribution to this charity. It is beyond me why these people seem to think that they have to take this trip in order to gain money from the public. The bottom line is, these trips are run by private tour firms who take a huge sum off the top and in effect, they are adventure holidays. Why not run a function or have a coffee mornings etc throughout the year like normal people do? Of course, there's no ego trip in serving home baking is there? If I think the charity is worth contributing to, I will contribute. Just don't ask me to pay for, 'a trip of a lifetime' for a bunch of self-styled adventurers.

what I can't get ma head around is this
they are raising sponsorship money to pay for a trip to raise sponsorship money - why not just give teh initial sponsorship money and be done with it
Otherwise it is just a bunch of chancers expecting the public to pay for their triop and give them sponsor money too

Oh but then they'll not get the oohs and ahhs of the public as they jet off to China on a, 'death defying' trip. Yes, Chancers seems the right expression
