"Mr McCallum was elected for Labour in 2007, but became an independent because he wanted to ensure enough focus was given to his ward."
Here was me thinking it was because he was a convicted criminal, convicted of fiddling housing benefit - which even the labour party found to be beyond the pale

He's a slippery little shit who has been hovering around in the background of all the little, 'community groups'. He should have been dismissed from the council but the wee rat has no decency and no conscience.

He also stood for the Liberals and for a while courted the SNP. Odd little man.

Are you allowed to stand as a councilor when you have been convicted of a criminal offense?
If so it just makes a totally mockery of the system.
So glad I haven't voted today.

well i would have thought if you have a criminal record like his that would have stopped him standing....it does make you wonder how corrupt the council is
