www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/news/greenock/articles/2012/04/11/427024-mp-in-vat-cut-call/When the Thatcher regime introduced VAT on electricity and gas, the Labour Party went wild and vowed to remove it if they were elected. Move forward to the Bliar/Brown government and did we see the VAT taken off utility bills? Did we buggery but I didn't notice Mr McKenzie or ANY of his nodding dog pals utter a word about it. Now we see Mr Mortician gazing into a central heating boiler as though he knows something about it. I'm sure Mr Duddy would like to see VAT reduced to 5% for home improvements, indeed I'm sure he'd like the taxpayer to give him a subsidy as well. Sorry, Mr Duddy and Undertaker, I'd rather see VAT being taken back to 17.5% at least for everything and removed from utility bills altogether and perhaps then the elderly and low paid will not have to think twice before they buy a bottle of Irn-Bru or a packet of toilet rolls.
