From the Tele:These 65,550 (does the Tele have access to the passenger bookings from all the cruise lines? ?) tourists are no more visiting Greenock than air passengers landing at Prestwick Airport are visiting the town of Prestwick. So far as I can see, the only people to make out of this are Peel Holdings who own Clydeport and maybe Primark and the pound shops for the poor, underpaid and overworked foreign crews who spend their time in the bowels of these so-called ships. Doubtless all the wee polo-shirted ladies will turn up waving the tartan and inviting all the bemused travellers to partake of Greenock's, "state of the art leisure centre" or take a donner roon the cut. Old Wilson will be there too in the hope that he and his followers get invited on board. BOTTOM LINE : Greenock is NOT a tourist destination, it's a depressed industrial town replete with junkies and neglected elderly and sick people. I wish the Tele and others would stop suggesting that the Container Terminal is the Grand Harbour in Valetta!

The thought of anyone coming to Greenock for a holiday is a funny one.

I would be very surprised if Greenock is mentioned at all and if it is, it'll be put forward as part of Glasgow (sorry for that Glasgow)

65,550 is that not the amount who have left the town for a better life elsewhere
