INVERCLYDE schoolchildren are set to pay a special tribute to a Greenock-born polar hero. how many young greenock folks know about birdy bower,s...nothing much was ever mentioned about our local hero....nice to see him being honoured.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Robertson_Bowers

whit!!!! when you go along the esplanade you will find his house, across the street from the water if you walk right along there is a plaque telling you all about him........i have known about birdy since i was young

neartic, that says it all, the lack of local history in our schools is a disgrace, infact the lack of Scottish history in schools is a national disgrace
The Union of the Flags would be a good start.

the lack about scottish history, all we got in school was about nelson and wellington, shakespeare and all the great plonkers of england nothing about the battle of bannockburn william wallace or robert the bruce
