Community councils with the occasional and rare exception are a total waste of time and money. They are mainly adult 'crèches' for the elderly and those with nothing better to do.
Councillors dutifully drop in to give the proceedings an air of validity and some pathetic hack from the polis offers advice and consolation to members who are heartbroken over the preponderating effects of dog shite.
The wee ladies and the odd men who run these things are usually middle class or those who aspire to be. The likes of Nell would never dream of being involved despite being up to her nose in every other little, 'group'. Nell after all, has other masters.
The Wheatley report conceived Community Councils as a way of bringing decision making to the real grass roots level but it didn't work, right from the beginning, political lines were drawn. Some went the way of Charlie McCallum and his chameleon-like political allegiances and others were nothing more than Tory or Liberal enclaves.
Anyway, let's be shot of them and let the old dears and the pompous men scurry back to obscurity.
