it still would have been nice to spend it on something that everyone could enjoy like no pot holes It's not the councils money. As ah sed it wouldn't have went very far on that either and the statue will last longer than the fix they would put in place for hauf a dozen pot holes in fact it would last years longer.

well i dont owe any taxes that I know of and as for health care, I dont know about that either, this I do know , I paid into the pot just like everyone else.
However I do remember living on 68 pounds a week with just a council tax rebate, did,nt need to get rent paid, I should have said survived so, yes people can and do survive on such little money, mainly because we are not used to having a lot to spend.

You pay taxes everyday, VAT, Excise Duty, council tax etc - its impossible to live without doing so

, yes people can and do survive on such little money, mainly because we are not used to having a lot to spend. oh gosh horn i remember those days....when you have so little that you watch what your spending....the bills come first and then food with what you have left and you try to make it all last till you get paid again......hard times but a good learning curve in a way as when you do have a bit of extra cash your careful with it and dont squander it.... money is your best friend but one hell of an enemy when you dont have it

Food was quite inexpensive in those days and people actually had to cook it. There were no, 'ready meals' or frozen chips. In this country, food is fast becoming a luxury. I worry particularly for pensioners or single unemployed without kids, things must be utter hell for them but hey ho, we're all in it together!!!

Yes, we tried a Domino pizza one night and we were staggered at the cost. We should have gone down to Gianni's at the West Station, mind you, that's a very scary area to hang about nowadays.

we only use gianni's when we are staying over at the club in the summer but its a treat for us....
we have a big chest freezer so when we go shopping we buy joints of meat which we cook up and we have an electric slicer so jocky slices it all up and it does us for weeks on end....no ready cooked meals for us as there is nothing in them and they can be expensive

I've been known to frequent Domino's now and then, but it's only worth it if you've found a voucher code (google for them) or it's two-for-tuesday etc. And even then, only because I'm too lazy/forgetful to get cash out, and you can do dominos over the internet, with your debit card!
For sheer perfection, NOTHING, absolutely nothing, in the pizza world, eclipses Gianni's. The man is a legend, and his food sublime. Best pizza I've ever had.

its about time they spent money on something that everyone could use or enjoy instead of daft sculpture's

Ah think the sculptures are great, as noted previously, the one in the Port is deffo the best.
Anyone can enjoy them, all you have to do is stop and look and let yer imagination run wild..................seemples
I doubt very much there's anything else you could provide that cost only £26000 and could last any length of time and anybody can look at it and take it in.
If you drive along the M8 between Glasgow and Embra, there's plenty such stuff to see, whither it be the huge big metal horse near Easterhoose, the big heids at Eurocentral, the big horn at harthill(which used to play music and shout things oot) or the 7 sisters grass pyramids near bathgate - all worth just looking at as you pass them by.
As ah also said they should do something really ostentatious like the Angel of the North - something right over the top that people will come and see
That's the problem with street art, it can be very subjective
What would yooz have spent the money on? And please dont say jobs, roads ur ithur such stuff, we need to get away from everything being for the lowest common denominator.

I agree sam in a lot of what you are saying but lets face it, all the sculptures are like the wrapping of a present, now how many people are going to be dissapointed with the contents.
To me, the sculptures are the plaster to cover the pus heaving underneath.
I would have spent the money on cleaning out the deadwood that causes stagnation in every corner of Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock.
