from the greenock telerag health bosses want to stop babies being born at IRH. greater Glasgow and clyde wanted to close the birthing unit in 2008 but put the plans on ice while they tried to increase the number of deliveries. they now say that this has failed and that the move they previously shelved will go ahead. councillor jim mcilwee, who chairs the inverclyde community health and care partnership said it looks very likely the board will shut the unit. the board say they have marketed the unit, but people don't feel it has been properly promoted

It wont be long until nobody can afford to travel to a hospital and we will get to the stage of a illness that is easily treated and one that is to far gone to treat all for the sake of the fare. Not everyone has a car and travel by bus and train most certainly wont help the mother of 2 youngsters or the frail and disabled.

Are our glorious leaders (read buffoons) trying to depopulate Inverclyde? Nearly no hospital, pot hole capital of Scotland, full of decaying buildings, patchy regeneration, no parking and views spoilt by building superstores on the waterfront! Still at least we've some nice modern schools that will have some space in a few years! Did I miss anything?

Oh they see it alright. Nicola Sturgeon needs to deal with these out of control health boards and empire building hospitals. We are going to see a lot of babies born in McCorleone's taxis.

rankin was a lovely wee hospital and so friendly...i would hate it now if i was having my daughter as i wouldnt want to be outside greenock....its not that, you cant take your baby home unless you have a car seat.....what happens if you dont have a car...do you get your baby home at all? although we needed an up to date hospital the old greenock royal served us well, surely they could have modernised it to bring it up to date or was it the land they were just after...i liked the old royal and the way the wards were laid out

if we loose the royal which i think will happen in the future you can see a lot more deaths happening or doctor's at the centre more busy to the point they wont be able to cope
