i was on the committee to fight for Cowdenknowes high and i remember we made a trip to have a look at the school during the campaign to see what the kids were going to go to..... we had someone from across the water who new about buildings and we punted him up through the tiles on the roof to have a look...(we kept the head teacher busy)...his report that he made was that the building had SICK BUILDING SYNDROM.. unfortunatly we lost the fight and the kids went in...i was on the school board as i wanted to make sure that no kids got bullied.....i work shadowed a kiddy in first year and by lunch time i was feeling really tired and lathargic....i commented on that to the head mr mc callum who just said well just go home.....that is great i can go home but what worried me was how did the other kids feel and that was only about 3 hours into the day. as i said i was on the board to make sure that there was an anti bullying programme in place.....at board meetings i would bring it up and i was shut down by the other members and the headmaster as they said..."we dont have bullying in this school" aye right....i was so fed up with their attitude that i gave up the board....they were blinkered...

EVERY school has bullies in fact, there are bullies everywhere including, perhaps even especially the NHS.

It won't be private housing Linda if it is built on at all. If they build social housing you might want to get your name down for a nice new hoose with proper heating. Mind you, they'd never give you and Jock one, you'd need to take to the smack for a while or default on your rent before you'd qualify.

Mr McCallum - complete erse - couldn't run a bath never mind a school. My lad went to Wellington - he ended up hating it, mainly because of mccallum - here's what happened 1) my lad was dux in 4th year plus some other prizes 2) he was dux again in 5th year plus some other prizes - one of his prizes (IBM prize for science) was an empty envelope, when he opened it - he was told by mccallum and Smyth (deputy) when he asked about it being empty, that he had won far to many prizes and they only gave him the envelope asa publicity stunt to keep IBM happy 3) IBM were told of this and went mental at mccacllum, threatening to withdraw prizes from school 4) we went mental at parents night, they then denied saying that, despite witnesses -but clinging to the feeble excuse that the lad got to many prizes -FFS 5) mccallum wasn't interested in academic achievement whatsoever, he deemed it a success that the kids came to school, hr preferred them having hobbies and concert parties. 6) mccallum's teachers despised him too, I knew a couple who left because he was a wanker. 7) he allowed that tosser graeme brookes to wander the playground talking to the weans about god, despite complaints from parents 8) The school had one of these young entrepreneurs groups, many parents including us bought shares in company, funded the company, provided support, experience etc in running a company etc After the competition finished, they wouldn't release any profits, for charity as was originally planned- using it for school funds without asking anyone involved - despite making a song and dance about that too - nothing was ever done To summarise, mccallum and his head teachers were nothing but a bunch of wankers, some of them are still allowed to be in management positions to this day

i remember when i was in the first throws of our campaign and i was in his office, he had to leave the room for a moment leaving me in there on my own....there was a piece of paper on the desk that i managed a sneaky peek at and it was a letter to the heads of the primaries that fed into cowdenknows and it was telling them to get the parents to vote for the move...well it happened to fall into my bag so i could hand it over to the commitee that was fighting.......
he was so wanting the move as he was promised a higher wage so we put him into coventry to the point that he said he would leave his job....aye right......... he wasnt for the pupils and yea a lot of teachers couldnt stand him......the art teacher, cant remember his name used to come to my house to get his hair cut to the shock of our daughter when she came in moaning about mccallum....he said the same...he hated him...... a lot of the teachers left due to the move but it was mostly due to him

i dont see why they have fenced it off as its already fully fenced in and padlocked but i suppose its to keep undesirables out.... as tidds said, it should never have been built, its an ugly looking school inside and out..cowdenknowes was an old school yes, it was sinking but to be honest it didnt sink that much....it was a bright and airy school with plenty of greenery around it....things shouldnt have went the way they did.... it seems a lot of the new schools have flat roofs...have they not learnt yet?
