It wouldn't be quite so annoying if there was any possibility that this would cure the perverse behaviour but it won't. In fact it will encourage it. There's many a wee TAXPAYING pensioner who would love to get even £50 let alone £50,000.
However, when it all goes pear-shaped, we can all be able to say we told them!

It's only going to encourage more of them to camp since they would have their own designated spot, and for free. Next the council will want to install toilet facilities, showers and somewhere to do their washing or maybe that's included in the work they're planning. Someone has to clean up after them so the expenses will just keep coming.
If they've got £50,000 to spare, let them give it to people who deserve it.

Yes, no matter what the council does, these people will leave a sickly mess and if anyone doesn't believe me, take a look at that one near Barrhead. Perhaps we should all go out and annexe bits of parks.

I agree that no matter what the council does they will be criticised. A site for travellers is long overdue in Inverclyde. It can help alleviate the problems of illegal sites (Sheriffs are more likely to sign eviction notices where a formal site has been established) as well as providing an income for the council. The travellers do not get to live rent free as some have claimed. There will be a charge levied at a level still to be decided upon. The facilities for rubbish can then be used to prevent the dumping of rubbish that so irks some.
I think someone at the council actually has a sense of humour with the proposal of the site. For it to be put in the Council Leaders ward is just priceless, as well as for Cllr McLeod who has been one of the most outspoken critics of illegal sites. Clearly politically motivated is choosing Wilson the tory Councillors ward as well...
