Yes, yes. We all know that this wonderful and formerly FUNCTIONAL replica is or should be the centrepiece of Port Glasgow. It sums up for me at least, the real shipbuilding heritage much more than those glorified railings at Coronation Park.
History of course has been subtly altered to suggest that the bulk of the deteroriation pre-refurbishment was caused by the weather. Not so dear friends, whilst I accept that the wood needed work, it was the unfettered vandalism that buggered the thing up. The tragedy was and is that the Comet needed protection from some feral examples of the Port's population.
I have oft times mused and mulled over the thought that the Comet might find a place in the Transport Museum but as that place is a pile of utter pish thanks to a half daft bitch who wouldn't know transport from a tooth-mug. The other but probably unlike idea would have been for this superb vessel to take to the water again as a floating museum itself..but no, dear old Inverclyde District Council thought it best to dump it out in the open.
NO, you smirking, bomb-happy twat, TESCO is the centrepiece and you have merely added to that company's arrogance. The Comet should have been plcde, if it had to be placed, in the REAL centre of the Port, next to the old Town Hall and the Coronation Park.
Still, no point in going on about it, the Council in the vacuum left by the Morrisons, couldn't care a stuff about Port Glasgow and Jim McLeod might as well be in Tanganika for all the notice they'll take of him.
Thanks for sharing that pearl of wisdom Aubery, now tell us, does one get wet when one falls in the water?

The Comet is, after all, the centrepiece of the town and an important asset so we must do all that we can to protect it.”

Corporate Director for Regeneration and Environment Aubery Fawcett said: “We don’t want this (the canopy) ending up in the Clyde. It has to be anchored down securely so it doesn’t hit anybody. We are doing what we can to get the best value and most practical solution.”
