Well, in my view, the world will be a better place without the influence of such a man.
We are being repeatedly told that the decision, "showed 'great courage' and 'determination'. Utter, utter, utter pish! The man has been suffering from severe multi-infarct dementia to the extent that he is not sure where he is. How then can we believe that he took this decision, "freely and without compulsion"?
Let's look at the record who, according to the Archpishop of C***erbury, was a, "great theologian". He starts his life as an avowed supporter of NAZI-ism. Bearing in mind that there was serious pressure to join the Hitler Youth movement but there was no such pressure to be enthusiastic and boy, was he enthusiastic. He only jooked it when he was assigned to the Flakhelfer (anti-aircraft cadets) as he was scared of being shot at.
Of course his family and the Catholic church all say he was made to join and was never, "enthusiastic" and that his parents were fervent, "anti-Nazis". again, a pile of pish because there is NO indication that any of the Ratzinger family showed the slightest degree of opposition to the regime.
He took Holy Orders and for the first few years both as priest and teacher at seminaries, he was known to be quite liberal (for the Catholic church that is). However, as soon as he began to rise in the ranks, his liberalism turned to ultra conservatism. This brought him to attention of others with the same view and he rose quickly, eventually becoming a cardinal. During these years he headed a secret organisation entrusted with the powers to, "deal" with the child abuse scandals. He it was who arranged the cover up, he it was who spirited offending clergy away to prevent arrest. He is well known as a, 'hands on' type of man so it is inconceivable that he was unaware of the extent of the problem particularly as he established the protocols that minimised damage to the church. I therefore accuse him of criminal corruption and perverting (good word eh?) the course of justice and by definition, a child abuser.
We all know, or SHOULD know that behind the smiling face of the previous pope there lurked a hard line, uncaring man. From him there was no attempt to bring the church into the modern era, instead he actually set about throwing away the softer line espoused by his three predecessors. So when he died, for the ultra hardliners in the Holy See, there had to be continuity, there had to be a furtherance of the hard line.
When the old Pole fell of his perch, he was replaced by a man with ever harder views and a penchant for espousing conservative opinion.
There were hopes that Ratzinger would bring proper governance to the astonishingly corrupt Vatican but we don't know if he did or not because the secrets got even more secret.
Then came the hammer, there was to be NO women priests, homosexuality was a sin and those who, 'practiced' it should either abstain (presumably they should join the priesthood to achieve this unnatural state) or burn in hell. I can tell you all now that of the many priest I have known over the years, I'd say that at least half of them have been gay and actively so. And I know this because they have told me and have sought my advice as a physician.
Let me tell you that in my experience, people who rant and rave about the evils of homosexuality have SERIOUS problems with their own sexuality...do you hear that BIGOT? Ratzinger has spent most of his life in the sole company of strange men wearing gowns and frills, he has known the dark nights in the seminary as the rooms are, 'patrolled'......Chaste and pure?? Er, pull the other one.
I have said it before and I'll say it again, the Catholic church is doomed in the western world, society has woken up to an organisation that is all about control and NOT about faith and love. Their love is always conditional and ALWAYS bogus. It's, 'Do as I say, not as I do'. I have just watched and listened to all the shiny-eyed freak, ultra Catholics. They are getting all moist at the thought of having another rapturous gathering in St Peter's Square to shed copious tears and worship the new demagogue.
So, a man who has brought misery and condemnation to millions of men, women AND children is going, he will live out the rest of his life as a bleary eyed automaton but I hope that there is something of his intellect still functioning in his crumbling body that recalls the misery he has wrought and allowed to be wrought upon innocents. And if this is the case, I might just be inclined to think there is some form of deity.
And for the, 'proddies' out there who might feel inclined towards smugness, I refer them to what's going on in Aberdeen where the so called, 'reformed' church is demonstrating its own form of Christian, 'love'. It always strikes me as puzzling that a church that has declared that it does not regard the Old Testament as pure fact should find the Book of Leviticus so enticing and so binding.
