Your first mistake Linda is taking the Council's word on anything. During all this, did Keith Brooks take any active part?

what reason have they gave this time of the level of the Dam being lowered?

it was supposed to allow them to check the INFILL of the dam......aye right what infill....the dam is back up now as they closed the valve of.... because they lowered it again when we were sailing we had to keep taking the yachts out of the water after every race just to check for weed which we got....
there is to be a big race on this coming saturday so depending on how the weed situation is depends if it goes ahead.

well we found out why the dam was lowered... the house that was taken down on dunlop street was causing pressure on the infill pipe and when the house was taken down we have been told that the infill is running 10 times faster.....the dam went back up within 2 days.... today has been the first time i have been over as we have been busy with polly's flat...

strange how 10 times the amount of water coming in would cause a problem is there not a over flow into the wee dam? You would have thought all that water would have got rid of the green gunk

yea there is fedup.....before the house was knocked down the dam was lowered and it took nearly 5 months for it to fill due to the trickle we had, we had to rely on rain to fill it up..... the house is now down and the dam was lowered a bit last week and filled up again withing 2 days...what a difference........our dam on murdieston street feeds the thom street dam

Does this mean the water will be flowing into your dam continuously - that would be good because it may prevent as much growth of the weeds that were choking it all the time.

You are right Irene, constant refilling will oxygenate it and that will reduce weed growth. Mind you, I think there is an ulterior motive to all this. With the dams filled in, VERY valuable land would be freed up for development. As usual, they they know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

well the filling up of the dam seems to have worked for now but we really wont know how quickly it will fill until they lower it the way they did the last time when it was right down.... tidds ciano rebecchi years ago wanted it filled in for housing but it didnt get passed....if he got his way there would be houses on it now......if they tried that they would have a fight on their hands not only from us but from the public....we have a lease for the building that has a few years to run yet before we have to worry....

I feel certain that it has slipped through the listed building net. These waterworks are very old indeed and should be at least at the second tier of listing. Perhaps a wee letter should got off to Historic Scotland and the Civic Society. To have such a wonderful thing in the centre of a town is an asset beyond price.

It's not just buildings that get listed, the Cut is listed and I don't see why the two dams shouldn't be too. Right now the big thing that is aerating the good folks of Eaglesham is this bloody wind farm at Whitelees. It is the largest in Europe and now they want to make it half as big again. It is a damned eyesore and does nothing for anybody other than the greedy bastards who build them and collect taxpayers money for doing so. If we were to get free electricity it might be slightly better but no, we get bugger all bar the eyesore.
The companies make wild claims as to the amount of power generated by them but I have it on good authority, there's not enough power to light up Newton Mearns so hardly worth the bother.
We had a dreadful explosion a few weeks ago that saw rocks raining down on the village and wrecking cars (NOT mine thank God), I was hoping it was the wind farm:)

We have never had a sensible answer but the most common suggested cause is that a spark ignited some gas from soil whilst digging was in progress. If you believe that, you'll believe anything. Fortunately we are just slightly outside of the village proper but those down near the centre got peppered with rocks.

I get similar scurrilous comments made about my gastric (or at least I did!) but as I kept reminding Mrs Tiddles, naval officers never fart, we simply evacuate the deck.

They told my daughter there was subsidence in the house and that is why it was demolished, never know who to believe from the council, as for chiana well least said soonest mended with that numpty. It would be a sad day for everyone if the dams were lost all for a couple of bob.
