inverclydenow.com/news/local/7849-plan-to-sell-museum-boat-engine-for-scrapFirst it was a collection of priceless books and now an engine that clearly, at one time, had some significance. What else is languishing in an old garage somewhere? The last time I was in the McLean Museum all I could find was a model of T-Mobile, a collection of Victorian chanties, old R L Scott's deid animals and snooty staff who don't like to be disturbed. This, 'museum' and its staff are NOT fit for purpose, Inverclyde deserves better, it deserves a place where our heritage is preserved and on show for all to see. Of course, the Council don't want you to see just how much better things were before they stuck their Slater's suits in.

our club donated a very big yacht that used to be used...it was called i think the provest's boat...before the start of the big racing this would go out and fire a cannon...i have never seen it but i do know that they had it.........the last time one of our members managed to go down and see it the poor thing was in a hell of a state......this at one time was a beautiful boat so i wonder if they will sell this off...

We can all be assured that if the council are selling it for scrap, it will be going to another town.

the yacht belongs to our club and the only reason they got it was because we couldnt store it as it was so large....

Why does it cost £23k to prepare it for display? What's that, £50 for engine degreaser and £22500 for a big fuck off lunch for the council to talk about it?
Is the museum not a charity? If it was donated to them what the council got to do with it?

Exactly si, you'd think it was one of the Queen Mary's engines we are talking about. I smell little brown envelopes.
