Linda we are crossing lines again lol
here is my copy
Thought everything was sold years ago, with the only thing left to sell was Births Deaths and Marriages, mind you like the land they could be sold over and over again...........................
Mind you Greenock does well on recycling, oh my! just had a thought of all the skeletons rattling in the cupboard who died while trying to tell their stories. Wonder what their contract will entail regarding the secrets act.

inverclyde have no records of anyone living in greenock before 1968 they were destroyed when they moved from the buildings that used to be accross from the old fire station where the bull ring is now, 12 years ago i applied for a US immigration visa because my father was american i had to get proof that i stayed in greenock from birth when my lawyer contacted them the told them we can only send proof from 1968 on as the records were destroyed by mistake when they were moved

They were lying to you (nothing new there). Last year my mother extracted her grandmother's birth and marriage documents. Of course it cost a fortune to do it!!!!

We actually Near, they opened a huge bound ledger and hand wrote an 'extract' from the register for my mother. All our records in Scotland are kept at Register House and as far as I know, are now in digital form. In your case, I reckon they just didn't want to be bothered which is quite usual for council people.
