Councillor Dorrian added: "I think there is some confusion between spent and unspent convictions. The bottom line is we need to know about any and all offences that someone has ever been convicted of including any admonishments. We have to ensure that people getting into taxis in Inverclyde can be reassured that the person behind the wheel has been fully vetted.”

"Fully vetted" - does that include a rectal probe and psychological profiling? And who gets to fully vet elected members? Would you get in a taxi driven by Eric Joyce? Would it matter if Chris Huhne was your driver, broke the speed limit and got points put onto your licence? The definition of stupidity - turning a speeding ticket into two jail sentences...

I am sure that God, if she exists, will be grateful for the councils help come judgement day...
