OAK Mall Café Plan Approved -- PERMISSION has been given for the Fresh hot food takeaway premises in the Oak Mall, Greenock to become a sit-in café as well. Owners Stepwell were given the go-ahead by Inverclyde Council planning department to alter their existing unit in the shopping centre and a neighbouring unit.

Who are these people? Why are these people? Who funds them?

I was most amused to notice in one of their pictures a Costa Coffee sign. So this, 'fresh' outfit can't even make their own coffee!

Make your own mind up but if were a proper, hardworking cafe in the Maul paying huge rents, I'd be very, VERY pissed off at this publicly funded , adventure.

I wonder, do they use, 'Workfayre' slaves?

Well another place to not go to , it seems to me that the whole of Greenock has more places like this than anywhere else. I don't know of anywhere else as poor as Greenock that can donate so much money to keep those places going, unless they are receiving big grants and no doubt they will run out soon and then they will have to find another name, place and funding, but more than likely it will be the same workers.

It seems to me to be totally grant funded and as far as I am concerned, that is disgraceful. Behind it all, someone will be rolling along with a big scoop to shovel up the £20 note or so that falls out...if you take my meaning.

Yep...I'd be very surprised if this, 'enterprise' is still in operation 18 months from now. And, if it starts taking money away from legitimate, unsubsidised businesses, there will be hell to pay.
