JAMES Watt College will be providing 300 new places on six courses designed to help young people struggling to find employment.
The Focus Programme is being funded by Skills Development Scotland and is aimed at 16-24 year olds who are in Inverclyde and North Ayrshire. It is hoped the courses will help equip young people with the necessary skills to secure a job.
There are six course areas available – Retail, Customer Service, Sport and Leisure, Health and Social Care, Construction and Engineering
At the core of each course will be the development of skills and certification to give the trainee an advantage in the jobs market. The courses have been designed in consultation with local employers, making the learning as relevant as possible.
Enrolling on a Focus course will see trainees engaged in classroom learning as well as vital on-the-job work experience to achieve key employability skills.
The Retail and Customer Service Focus courses are the first to commence, with the 18-week programmes beginning in September. The Sport and Leisure course will start in October, with the remaining courses commencing in January 2013.
